LONG BATANG 1927

(Kayan River)

Approximately right after the harvest season in the year 1927, one of the elder Temekoleh Erang had brought some fellow villagers who wanted to find a new place from Long Batang to Baliu River. During this period, Sarawak was colonized by Rajah Brooke.

LONG IRAN (YEAR 1927- 1930)

Lepa ne ida oyan oma ngan ngelumpung ke’ Long iran, jane dau nai lepo’ ilu cen Long Batang ke nai mapo ida. Dalau ja, Paran cuk lepo’ ilu ngan pulo’ usa de’ Lata’ cen Long Batang tai pisu ngan mapo ida. Ampan Bilong Ebo dau pengelata’ de’ tai mapo ida da.

It was said that after those people had migrated to Long Iran and had built their houses and paddy fields steadily, a group of elders from Long Batang came to stop them from migrating. During that time, the village head, Paran, had instructed ten elders to do the task. The delegate was led by an elder, Ampan Bilong Ebo.

          Un dau re mipa kelonan’ Lata’ de’ tai da, “Adi o-o me’ nai pelempet nai ka’ Alo Baliu ji ne uban em pat ke mapo ame’, boka dalau me’ ta’ Beta-o rem mapo ame’, tiga lo’te, dayo lo’te me’. Mao’-mao’ labo’ ka’ Alo Baliu ne me’ pat odai. Nta ne me’ pat oba’ ikem ke mapo ame”, dau Temekoleh Erang de pat neng ida.

The head of the new village,Temekoleh Erang, said that “Why after we had reached this place, you tried to stop us? If you stopped us when we were still at Beta-o maybe we will consider it. But now we won’t change our mind.”

Supe’ sae’ ne dau de’ Lata’ da mapo ida ketai te’ Alo Baliu. Oban re bawa’ dau ketai metat lepo’ bio’ ilu, jane dau peniga lepo’ ilu cen Usun Apau sena-a’ Ampan Bilung Ebo Su-un ida mung kira merestui ida ngan bada’ apan Bali jaga’ ida. Mudip re ke’ Long Iran telu oman ja ne ida ngebalun ngan oyan alut sedia’ ke tai buau la’a.

Upon hearing their determination and firm decision, the delegate led by Ampan Bilung Ebo gave up from persuading them to return to Long Batang. They actually felt sad and heavy hearted to let them go because those people were the best people of the village but they had to respect the people's decision and he blessed them in a ritual known as su-un. The people of Long Iran lived there around three years and they started to get ready with several necessities and boats to migrate to another place.
